Jeffrey Lapin‘s insight:

Baylor researchers have released their findings, “_Comparative Effectiveness of Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation: Differential Outcomes Across TBI Model Systems Centers_” for a study that measured patient functional outcomes, after suffering a traumatic brain injury, across rehabilitation centers. This is the first study to measure whether different rehabilitation centers would lead to different outcomes. Similar studies have been performed for trauma centers as well as for other specialties.

Contrary to expectations. the researchers found significant variations, from 25% to 45% difference, between the best and lowest performing centers.

The Baylor researches noted that additional research is necessary to rule out other possible causes for the different outcomes.
