See on Scoop.itNebraska and National Consumer Protection

Two-factor authentication is one of the best things you can do to make sure your accounts don’t get hacked.

Jeffrey Lapin‘s insight:

You should enable two-factor authentication on all accounts that accept it as passwords can be stolen or hacked. Two-factor authentication requires two things: a password and a code that gets sent to something you have, such as your phone.

The following sites all offer two-factor authentication: Google/Gmail; LastPass; Apple; Facebook; Twitter; Dropbox; Evernote; PayPal; Steam; Microsoft accounts’ Yahoo! Mail; Amazon web services; LinkedIn; and WordPress.

Winter Weather Alert: Generators

See on Scoop.itNebraska and National Accident, Injury & Disability Information

Dangerous ice and snow is sweeping across the plains, south, and heading east.  There are expected to be widespread power outages associated with this large

Jeffrey Lapin‘s insight:

Planning on using a portable gas generator because of a power outage? If so, follow these tips from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC ):

TIP: Put your generator: OUTSIDE! Keep it at least 20 feet* away from windows and doors. Do NOT put generators in garages or basements. An open door does NOT provide enough ventilation to save you from deadly carbon monoxide gas.

TIP: When you use a generator, be sure to have a working CO alarm in your home. (Note: You should do this anyway.)

TIP: Know the initial symptoms of CO poisoning.
